Since 1984, Dragon Ball has been arguably the most popular franchise of all generations. From Japan to the Dorothée club, the series marked many children who are still fans of it today, as adults.
Where did Dragon Ball come from?
The Dragon Ball franchise was created by Akira Toriyama in the 80s. It is first and foremost the story of little San Goku, on planet Earth, in search of the 7 crystal balls allowing him to achieve any of his wishes. During his adventure he meets Bulma, a human also in search of these famous artefacts. Many adventures follow, such as martial arts tournaments, the fight against Piccolo ... and meetings that will lead San Goku, adult, to marry the one we find in Dragon Ball Z: Chi-Chi.
Et Dragon Ball Z ?
After Dragon Ball, the series changed its name to become "Dragon Ball Z" in the West, while the "traditional" Dragon Ball manga continued in Japan. This change comes with the arrival of a new producer and many new members of the animation team. This hustle and bustle in the teams brought about a radical change in the storyline, more focused on action and combat. Dragon Ball Z is therefore from the Dragon Ball series, but with major changes in the storyline compared to the original manga.
Dragon Ball Z: the greatest animated series of all time
In particular, we learn that San Goku, who was only a Monkey-tailed Human in Dragon Ball, is actually a Saiyan from another planet: the planet Vegeta, now destroyed. This little boy is a survivor with incredible powers. We will be following the evolution of this character throughout the series, and in many spin offs, such as Dragon Ball GT or even more recently Dragon Ball Super. Each with its share of encounters and related adventures.
We will therefore understand: the Dragon Ball Z license is one of the biggest successes of Japanese manga culture in Western countries. First published in print (manga) form, the franchise's rapid success saw it become one of the most popular anime of all time. It has been declined in many spin offs and new series have emerged to follow up on its immense success.
The manufacturers of merchandise have seized on this phenomenal success to create magnificent products in the universe of Dragon Ball.
The success of derivative products
